The Cardigan Welsh Corgi Club Code of Ethics
Members who own or breed Cardigan Welsh Corgis are expected to
comply with the following Code in order to fulfil the aims and
objectives of the Cardigan Welsh Corgi Club.
In doing so they will:
1. Properly house, feed, water and exercise all dogs under their care,
and arrange for appropriate veterinary attention as and when
required.
2. Not allow any of their dogs to roam at large, or to cause a
nuisance to neighbours or those carrying out official duties.
3. Ensure that their dogs shall wear properly tagged collars in
accordance with local legislation, when away from home, and shall be
kept under effective control.
4. Not breed bitches before the age of 18 months, or until the second
season; whichever is later.
5. Not breed bitches if the dam will reach eight years at the date of
whelping, without explicit advance permission from the RKC prior to
mating as per R.K.C rules.
6. Agree not to breed from a dog or bitch which could be in any way
harmful to the dog or cause detriment to the breed.
7. Ensure that all of their dogs to be used for breeding are either
tested P.R.A clear through schemes recognised by the Royal Kennel
Club, or are P.R.A heredity clear by pedigree. Heredity clear lines
should be tested every 2/3 generations.
8. Ensure all breeding stock, except registered merles, should be
tested for the merle gene before breeding. Stock carrying the merle
gene must only be mated to a tricolour, red point or brindle point
tricolour.
9. Only allow Blue Merles to be mated to tricolour, red point or brindle
point tricolour.
10. Not knowingly misrepresent the characteristics of the breed or
falsely advertise dogs nor mislead any person regarding the health or
quality of a dog.
11. Agree without reservation that any veterinary surgeon performing
an operation on any of their dogs which alters the natural
conformation of the animal, may report such operation to the Royal
Kennel Club.
12. Agree that no healthy puppy should be culled. Puppies which do
not conform to the Breed Standard should be placed in suitable pet
homes.
13. Only let puppies or dogs go to new homes where there is a
reasonable expectation of a happy and healthy life, and will help with
the re-homing of a dog if the initial circumstances change.
14. Supply written details of all dietary requirements, veterinarian
treatment and micro-chip, and give guidance concerning responsible
ownership when placing puppies or dogs in a new home.
15. Ensure that all relevant Kennel Club documents are provided to
the new owner on sale or transfer of puppy, and will agree, in writing,
to forward any relevant documents at the earliest opportunity, if not
immediately available.
16. Will supply written details of all dietary requirements and give quidence
concerning responsible owership when placing puppies or dogs in a new home.
17. Not sell any dog to commercial dog wholesalers, retail pet dealers,
or directly or indirectly allow dogs to be given as a prize or donation in
a competition of any kind. Will not sell by sale or auction Kennel Club
registration certificates as stand alone items (not accompanying a
dog).
18. Should any restrictiond or endorsements be attached to any puppy or adult
these must be notified to the potential buyer at first contact and breeders will not
impose restrictions or endorsements that are unreasonable.
19. Abide by all aspects of the Animal Welfare Act.
20. Club members will treat everyone with respect, dignity without discrimination and behave politely in any public place and club events.
26. Members may not make derogatory remarks on members, non members or dogs on facebook or ather media outlets.
27. Breach of these provisions may result in expulsion from club
member ship, and/or disciplinary action by the Kennel Club and/or
reporting to the relevant authorities for legal action.
